Veterans’ Memorial

In October 2017, a group of Riverside alumni who were also veterans gathered to find a way to honor veterans, especially Riverside students and former and present employees.  The committee decided to pursue a two-part memorial: a Wall of Honor located in the stadium area, and an interactive touch screen area in the Riverside main lobby.

The Wall of Honor

Dedicated on September 13, 2019, the wall consists of engraved bricks honoring many veterans by name and others thanking all veterans.  Among those honoring the veterans are companies, school groups, and individuals that donated to this project.

The committee sold bricks to  cover the cost of construction and materials to construct  the memorial, which also has the flags representing all  the historical military branches and the American flag.  The wall includes four granite etched scenes that depict major U.S. conflicts or wars as well as a centerpiece with names of Riverside students that died while serving and a list of sponsors.

The area around the Wall is being expanded to include more bricks.  The concrete pad has been extended to include the sides as well as the non-flag side.  Thanks to the generosity of Shannon Fence, the fenced in area around the Wall is larger than the original plan. Landscape around the pad will be installed this spring.

Bricks can still be purchased!

With the expansion, bricks are still available for purchase with engraving to be done in the spring. Bricks costs $100 each. Please contact one of the committee members below if you are interested in creating a brick with a veteran’s name or a sponsor’s name. Corporate and individual donations are greatly appreciated.

Touchscreen Display in RHS Lobby

The Interactive 55” touch screen and  software is in the lobby of the high school. The feature holds the name and biographical information on veterans who attended or worked at Riverside High School. Auburn Career Center students developed a software program that will allow viewers to search for information on veterans by graduation year, name or military branch of service.

More Information is needed on veterans!

There are still veterans that need to be included in this feature. The committee asks for submission of information and pictures about any Riverside Local Schools former student or former and present employee veterans. A veteran information form is below.
