Tonya Farmer Niemeyer

Class of 1990

 

While at Riverside, Tonya excelled at athletics.  She earned four varsity letters in both track and cheerleading.

 

Tonya’s performance in track and field events earned her All NEC honors in the 100 m hurdles, 300 m hurdles, 1,600 m relay and long jump.  She was a regional qualifier in the 300 m hurdles and long jump in 1989 and the 1,600 m relay in 1990.  Tonya was a key part of the groups which set Riverside records in the 1,600 m, shuttle hurdle, high jump and long jump relays.  She was recognized as a News-Herald Athlete of the Week in both 1989 and 1990.

 

As a cheerleader for both the football and basketball teams during her three years at Riverside, Tonya led her squad to numerous honors, including first place in both cheer and dance at the 1989 Lake County United Way Cheerleading Competition, second place at the 1990 Cleveland State University Cheerleading Competition and third place at the 1989 Ohio Cheerleading Championship.  At the 1989 Ohio Cheerleading Championship, she was selected as one of ten to the elite All-Star Squad.  She also received various awards at cheerleading summer camps.

 

Tonya’s cheerleading excellence continued at The Ohio State University.  As a freshman, she was chosen to be a member of the first ever junior varsity cheerleading squad.  She was chosen for the varsity squad in 1992 with the highest score.  In April, 1993, she became a national champion when the OSU cheerleaders won the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Cheerleading Championship Competition.  Elected to be a squad co-captain, Tonya cheered for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball through May, 1994.

 

Since graduating from OSU in June, 1995, Tonya has opened a cheerleading and tumbling business for students ages three and up in Minster, Ohio, where she currently resides.  At The Edge Cheerleading and Tumbling, she teaches students ages 18 months to college in cheerleading, tumbling, conditioning and strength training, as well as develops lesson plans and trains instructors in correct spotting technique and positive coaching.  Tonya also acts as a regional, national and international judge for AmeriCheer, Inc.

 

Tonya and her husband Bryan have five children Adam, Jonathan , Jacob, Alyssa and James.
