Scott Shafer

 

While at Riverside, Scott was a stellar student athlete that participated in three sports:  football, track and basketball.  He was a three year letter winner in both football and track and a two year letter winner in basketball.  Junior and senior year were the highlight of Scott’s athletic career at Riverside.  In football, Scott received All-NEC honors, Conference Offense MVP in 1984, Team MVP, led the county in passing, the Telegraph Player of the Week as a quarterback. Scott was named to the Save-A-Sight All-Star team where he was the MVP.   Scott was also Special Mention-All Ohio as a quarterback.  Scott was offered a full scholarship to play at Division I Ohio University in 1984. 

 

In Track, he was a member of the All-NEC 1600m Relay team.  He was a key member of a track team that had gone Undefeated in 3 straight years.  Scott was a record holder in several track events. 

Scott was team Captain of the basketball team both junior and senior year and in turn team MVP.  He was also an All-NEC selection and Telegraph Player of the Week

 

After high school, Scott attended Baldwin -Wallace College and Indiana University. 

 

For 16 years Scott has been seen on the sidelines of several Division I football programs in several different capacities.  He has been an assistant Coach at the University of Illinois- Defensive Coordinator at Northern Illinois University, assistant Coach at the University of Rhode Island, and a Graduate Assistant Coach for Indiana University.  He currently holds the position as Defensive Coordinator at Western Michigan University. 

 

Although Scott is very busy most of the fall, he finds time to help coach youth basketball and Little League Baseball. 

 

Scott has been and continues to be an influence on young men from across the United States.
